Gargoyles!
Gargoyle from Orvieto. Photo: Anne Benvenuti
Gruesome, glorious and gorgeous, these beasties form the subject for Rockefeller’s invitational multimedia exhibit, That Gargoyle on my Shoulder, January 14 through March 19.
Designed as an expanding exhibition, new pieces are welcome as the installation continues – poetry, photography, drawings, sculptures, multi-media pieces. Artists Anne Benvenuti, David Tartof, Brian Dortmund, Luke Tauber, Jennifer Mannebach and Lorraine Brochu contribute the initial work. Visit again and see the family of gargoyles grows and expands through the cold winter months, with hot chocolate and drawing materials available!
Submissions are still being accepted for artistic works – 2D, 3D, performative and written — to be hosted at the Chapel.
For tangible pieces, please send description of work, number to be displayed, dimensions, and an electronic image or photo of the work(s). All work should be show-ready and artists should be prepared to install the work sometime the week of January 4 – 10. A Walker Display system is installed in the Chapel’s west transept and Interreligious Center. Tables may be available for three-dimensional works. For less tangible work, please submit sample of writing, recording, video or project outline. Negotiations will be undertaken for performance pieces.
While Rockefeller Chapel welcomes broad creativity, it retains the right to refuse any works it deems inappropriate for the exhibit. Artists may make their work available for sale, as noted in the label information. Please submit email an image or description of proposed work to:
