Hunchback

Thursday through Sunday, October 22-25 at 8 pm
Redmoon Theater prides itself on producing unexpected theater in unexpected spaces. Rockefeller’s Gothic environs serve as the stage for Redmoon’s Hunchback, based on Victor Hugo’s classic novel Notre Dame de Paris, with unique shadow puppetry, elaborate masks, and outrageous acrobatics. The dramatic set changes throughout the performance as life-size boxes transform to reveal carnival characters, and scenes unfold in a giant pop-up book with miniature puppets.

Tickets at the door or in advance at redmoon.org, $20 general/$10 student and senior. Funded in large part by the University of Chicago Arts Council.

Performed by troupes of actors known as mummers or guisers, this dramatic form originated from the British Isles but spread later to other parts of the world. The plays usually involve a magical cure by a quack doctor, a duel between good and evil and a well-danced finale. Tickets at the door or call 773.702.7059; $10 general/$5 senior and student.
